Baritone

Biography

Chinese baritone Xiaomeng Zhang studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music and Julliard School. He is an Artist in Residence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Music, and a former member of the Merola Opera Programme at San Francisco Opera and the Opera Studio at Zurich Opera. As a Studio member, his roles for Zurich Opera included Silvio (I pagliacci) and Marullo (Rigoletto), with recent guest roles including Ping (Turandot) and his debuts as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) under Riccardo Minasi and Donner (Das Rheingold) under Gianandrea Noseda. Recent engagements elsewhere include Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus) at the National Centre for the Performing Arts Beijing, Chou En-lai (Nixon in China) for Paris Opera under Gustavo Dudamel, Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) for the Aspen Music Festival, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) for ARE Opera, Schaunard (La bohème) for the Chautauqua Music Festival and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Opera Columbus. He makes his debut with The Royal Opera in the 2025/26 Season as Ping.
