Biography

Lamtharn Hantrakul "yaboihanoi" is an AI Sound Artist, AI Research Scientist and Creative Director challenging Southeast Asian traditions through a synthesis of electronic music, machine learning and mixed-media reimaginations of Thai culture. Across sound, dance and design, his solo and collaborative projects collapse binaries between the traditional and modern, the young and old, and confront algorithms that choreograph which cultures are celebrated and forgotten. Lamtharn leverages his unique career as both a programmer and composer to reveal and rebel; coding audio technologies and then wielding them to write electronic music empowering melodies, soundscapes and rituals of his region.

As an engineer, Lamtharn has over 7 years of experience in the US and Chinese Tech industries, where he developed state-of-the-art generative AI models for Google, ByteDance and TikTok. His technical innovations include co-authoring open source libraries like Google's Differentiable Digital Signal Processing (DDSP) Library and ByteDance's SEED-MUSIC music system found in Doubao (China's ChatGPT).

As an artist, his electronic music under the moniker 'ญาบอยฮานอย yaboihanoi' is known for an uncompromising use of Thai tunings and rhythms. In 2022, he won the international AI Song Contest with his track 'อสุระเทวะชุมนุม Enter Demons and Gods' and recently brought this unique blend of Thai electronic music to the stages of SONAR Music Festival 2025 alongside Skrillex, Peggy Gou and Four Tet.

Lamtharn's unique vision on how machine learning can empower culture and respect local traditions has been covered by international media including WIRED, Deutschlandfunk, Scientific American and Fast Company. He has received commissions from renowned Thai artists including Pinaree Sanpitak, Pichet Klunchun and Saran Yen Panya for pieces showcased at the Bangkok Arts Bienalle (2022), Taiwan International Festival for the Arts (2024), INTUR (2024), Holland Festival (2025) and solo works for the Goethe Institute Thailand (2025, 2026).
