Biography

Russian mezzo-soprano Yulia Matochkina’s recent engagements include returns to Deutsche Oper Berlin as Amneris (Aida) and Ortrud (Lohengrin), role debuts as Azucena (Il trovatore) and Venus (Tannhäuser) for Bayerische Staatsoper, and Eboli (Don Carlo) for The Metropolitan Opera, Semperoper Dresden and Royal Opera House, Amneris and Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) for the Tokyo Spring Festival under Riccardo Muti and Dalila (Samson et Dalila) for Opera de Tenerife. Additional highlights include Verdi’s Requiem for Zurich Opera, the Verbier Festival, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Dutch National Opera and with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Carmen for Arena di Verona, Azucena for Zurich Opera, Ulrica for La Scala, Milan and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Marfa (Khovanshchina) for Paris Opera and Federica (Luisa Miller) for Staatsoper Hamburg and the Salzburg Festival. Engagements for 2024/25 include Ulrica and Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) for Bayerische Staatsoper, Amneris for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Santuzza for Lyric Opera of Chicago and Carmen for Ópera de Las Palmas.
