Royal Ballet and Opera Stream is a digital service through which you can watch The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet’s most-loved productions. Two full-length performances and exclusive additional content will be added every month. You can access these productions anytime and anywhere through a range of devices.
You can watch a wide range of ballet and opera productions from the Royal Ballet and Opera on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream. You can also get a glimpse behind-the-scenes and have access to in-depth insights about the productions. The library of performances features classic works, contemporary pieces, and each month new productions will be added, so there’s always something new to watch. Performances with explicit content carry clear guidance on their production page. Please check the guidance ahead of watching.
When watching online, we recommend using Google Chrome. Find out how to install Google Chrome and set it as your default browser. You can also watch on other browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge. We do not support watching via Internet Explorer or some older versions of the above browsers as they do not adhere to our security standards.
You can explore the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream on the Royal Ballet and Opera website. You will need to log into your account to access it.
Many of the performances on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream have been recorded at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, but you can watch them wherever you are in the world. Most of our productions are accessible internationally, however, some productions are not available everywhere due to rights and legal restrictions. If an opera or ballet is not available in your country, you will not be able to play the video and this will be clearly marked on your screen.
You will need a strong internet connection to watch productions on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream. We recommend a broadband speed of 10mbps or more. If you are not sure whether your internet is fast enough, try playing one of our trailers to see if it plays smoothly. You can do this without signing up – just click play.
You can watch Royal Ballet and Opera Stream on your TV by downloading the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app onto an Amazon Firestick. An Amazon Firestick can be bought from many major retailers, online and in store.
Please be aware, Generation 1 and 2 FireTV sticks will not support our TV app.

You will also need an Amazon account to set up your Firestick and a Royal Ballet and Opera account to download the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app. Signing up with Amazon is simple and free.
Connect your Firestick to a power source and into a HDMI port in your TV. Use the remote control provided to connect wirelessly to the internet. When prompted, connect to your Amazon Account via another device using the activation code on the screen.
Once set up, and logged into your Amazon account, you can download the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app for free.
Once the app has been downloaded you can pair your RBO account. Log in to your regular RBO account on another device. You will see a pairing code on your TV. Type this into the relevant box on the website and click ‘activate TV’. You now have full access to the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream TV app on your TV.

Once set up, and logged into your Google account, you can download the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app for free. From the Google TV homescreen scroll to Apps. Here you can browse or search. Once you have found the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app, click install. Google may require you to verify your age when downloading this app. To do this, please visit Google's verification page and follow instructions on the screen.
Not all Android TVs support the Google TV App. The Google Playstore will show whether you can or can't download it on your television type.
Once the app has been downloaded you can pair your RBO account. Log in to your regular RBO account on another device. You will see a pairing code on your TV. Type this into the relevant box on the website and click ‘activate TV’. You now have full access to the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app on your TV.
You can also watch Royal Ballet and Opera Stream on your TV by downloading the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app onto an LG Smart TV. LG Smart TVs can be bought from many major retailers, online and in store. Please be aware, older versions (2019 or earlier) will not support our TV app.
You can download and delete apps on LG webOS Smart TVs through these simple steps. Please check carefully that the LG Smart TV device is compatible with the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream TV app. You can download the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app for free. Press the home button on your LG TV remote controller and select 'LG Content Store'. Select the 'Apps' category at the top of the LG Content Store menu. Here you can browse or search. Once you have found the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app, click install. Select launch to open the app once the download has completed.
Once set up, and logged into your Apple account, you can download the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream app for free.

You can watch Royal Ballet and Opera Stream by ‘casting’ it to your TV via a Google Chromecast. A Chromecast can be plugged into any screen with an HDMI port. With this, you can pair your device and play streaming services on a larger screen.
You will find instructions with your Google Chromecast about how it will work with your specific TV. Once set up you are ready to connect another device. Using a compatible device, such as a tablet or mobile, navigate to the performance you would like to watch. In the top, left-hand corner the Chromecast symbol will appear. Ensure your Chromecast is on, click the symbol and the devices should pair automatically.
We are only able to support Google Chromecasts at this time. Other mirrorcasting devices, including those built in to some TVs may work, however we will be unable to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
Please note: Apple devices no longer support casting to Chromecast from web browsers such as Safari or Google Chrome. Some additional third-party screen-mirroring applications may enable a connection from Apple devices, but we are unable to support or advise about these.
You can watch Royal Ballet and Opera Stream via Apple Airplay. Airplay allows you to share videos and more wirelessly from an Apple device to an Apple TV or a compatible Smart TV.
You will find set up instructions with your Apple TV. Once set up you are ready to connect your Apple device. Using a compatible device, navigate to the performance you would like to watch. The Airplay symbol should appear on your screen when your devices are ready to connect. Please ensure that you are using two devices on the same Wi-Fi network, both connected via Airplay.
Please note: Whilst casting with Airplay from iOS or iPadOS to Apple TV is supported by Royal Ballet and Opera Stream, casting via MacOS (such as MacOS Monterrey) may not be supported in all scenarios. Please refer to Apple's guidance for more information.
Please note: Apple Airplay is not compatible with Google Chromecast. Some additional third-party applications may enable a connection from Apple devices, but we are unable to support or advise about these.
You can use a HDMI cable to connect your computer to your TV to watch the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream via our website. You will experience Royal Ballet and Opera Stream differently depending on the length and quality of the HDMI cable you use. We would suggest that your cable is no longer than 1.5m and that it is suitable for 20Gbps. This is dependent on the make and model of your TV and connecting device. Due to the nature of this connection, we are unable to remotely support manual connections via cables.
You can watch via a TV browser if you have a Smart TV, such as a Samsung or LG TV. These browsers may be different from those listed above and therefore may not be supported.
Open the internet browser on your TV and visit the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream homepage. Enter your email address and password to sign in. Then you will be able to access Royal Ballet and Opera Stream as per your subscription. The video should play in a similar way to via a personal computer.
If the video does not play, your Smart TV may not be compatible with Royal Ballet and Opera Stream. If this is the case, we would recommend using one of the other means of connecting to the TV.
You can pause, play and restart productions at any point during your watching. There is a progress bar at the bottom of the video, which can be seen when hovering over the video with your mouse or clicking it with your finger. This will tell you how much content you have left to watch.
You can drag the bar to jump to a particular place on the recording. If the performance you are watching is livestreamed, this feature will not be available until after the event has finished.
Volume is adjusted via the device you are watching on. For example, if you are watching on your television, you can adjust the volume via your remote control. The volumes that you will hear are accurate to the performance, they are not altered in any way. You can also adjust the volume via the player. This control can be found near the progress bar.
If you are watching Royal Ballet and Opera Stream via the Safari or Microsoft Edge browsers you will be offered audio options: Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital and stereo.
Screen brightness is adjusted via the device you are watching on. For example, if you are watching on your tablet, you can find the brightness controls in device settings.
You can watch opera performances on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream with English (UK) subtitles. To change the appearance of subtitles, click the speech bubble icon in the bottom right hand corner of the player. Here you can change the size, font, colour and background colour of the subtitles, or turn them off completely.
Please note: you are not currently able to switch off subtitles on our Apple TV app.
In the Amazon FireTV and Google TV apps you can adjust the player settings depending on the quality of your broadband connection. In the app menu go to 'Account & settings' and then 'video player settings'. Here you can choose a setting that works best with your bandwidth.
Your subscription to Royal Ballet and Opera Stream is available at any time at the click of a button. You can subscribe to Royal Ballet and Opera Stream by clicking ‘subscribe’ in the menu, via the Stream homepage or via the event you would like to watch. You can pay in a way that suits you, monthly or annually. Follow the instructions to set up your subscription.
If you do not have an RBO account, you will need to create one as part of the subscription process. If you have an existing RBO account, you can add a stream subscription.
Your subscription will be available immediately after signing up. If you have already signed up and paid, you can find details about your subscription in your Account.
Everyone is welcome to subscribe to Royal Ballet and Opera Stream, and we have membership types available at a range of levels. You can watch a growing number of performances for just £9.99 per month. If you are a Royal Ballet and Opera Friend you can access all the same content for even less. Those who are new to the Royal Ballet and Opera are eligible for offers and reductions. After this, your first payment will be taken (either a monthly or annual payment) automatically based on the payment method you chose when signing up.
If you do not want to continue your subscription, you can cancel at any time in your Account. This will end your subscription at the end of the current payment period and the next payment will not be taken.
You can pay for a subscription to Royal Ballet and Opera Stream monthly or annually. Monthly payments of £9.99 will be taken on the same day each month and can be cancelled at any time. Annual payment is £99.99, the equivalent of ten months subscription, and is taken on the same day each year.
Royal Ballet and Opera Stream is available internationally. Wherever you are in the world, you will be billed in pound sterling (GBP) or the equivalent in your local currency at the time of purchase. You will not be charged any additional fees for this transaction.
New subscribers are welcome to try Royal Ballet and Opera Stream for less. To access this offer period you will need to enter payment details, but the first full payment will not be taken from your account until after the offer period has finished. After this, payment will be taken automatically. The amount will depend on whether you have signed up for a monthly or annual subscription. You can find out more about this in your Account.
If you have paid for an annual subscription, your access will be valid for one calendar year. Your subscription will renew automatically, and you can find these details in your Account. If you would like to change your subscription model, please contact the box office.
If you pay monthly, you can cancel your subscription at any time on your account page, retaining access until the end of the month you have paid for. If you have paid for an annual subscription, you can cancel at any point and access will continue for the year you have paid for.
Refunds are not available. If you experience any issues regarding payments please contact the box office.
You can buy an annual subscription to Royal Ballet and Opera Stream as a gift. When buying a gift subscription you can opt for the gift code to be sent to either your recipient or yourself. The recipient will use this code in the Stream sign-up process to begin their pre-paid subscription. Please note: the recipient will have to log in or sign up to an RBO account to do this.
Some of our most-loved performances will be available for you to watch via pay-per-view (PPV). You can rent the content for a limited period of time and you do not need a subscription to do so. Titles cost £7.99 and you have access for 72 hours once you start watching. This is subject to change.
If a performance is available to rent via pay-per-view you will be able to see a blue 'Rent for £XXX' button. Clicking this button will add the rental to your basket. You will then be able to go to the check out and pay. However, you will need to log in to your account during the check out process.
Once you have purchased your performance, it will appear as an item on the My Stream tab on the streaming platform, under My Purchases. A tab on top of the video player will tell you about how long you have left to watch.
You will have access to the performance from moment that you purchase your pay-per-view rental. However your rental countdown will not begin until you start watching the performance. From then, you will have 72 hours to watch the performance as many times as you like.
You will receive an email when you begin watching, confirming how long you have access for. You will also receive an email when you have 24 hours left to watch.
You must be signed in to your Royal Ballet and Opera account to access this service. You can sign in using the login details that you use to buy tickets. Sign in here.
You will need an RBO account to use Royal Ballet and Opera Stream. You may already have one if you have purchased tickets or visited the Royal Opera House. You can sign in to or sign up for an RBO account here.
You may have created a different account with a password for a previous version of Royal Ballet and Opera Stream from when we partnered with the Vimeo video player. This will not work anymore. Our new and improved streaming platform is part of our website and you can simply use your usual RBO login details to access it. Click here to sign in.
To reset the password on your RBO Account, go to the Account sign-in page. Here you can find the ‘Forgot password?’ button. By clicking this, a reset link will be sent to the email address registered to your account. Follow the instructions in the email to reset your password and log in to your RBO Account.
If the opera or ballet you are watching is freezing or buffering, there may be a problem with your internet connection. This could be due to increased local usage, local outages or problems with your service provider.
The Royal Ballet and Opera Stream player will automatically adapt to the internet available to provide you with the best viewing experience possible. You can also manually adjust video quality via the Royal Ballet and Opera Stream player and in the TV app settings. If freezing continues to occur, please contact your broadband provider.
If you are using the web version of Royal Ballet and Opera Stream you can change the player settings to adjust to your internet bandwidth. These settings can be found under the sound and camera icons on the player. 'Medium' will provide a good experience for average internet speeds, 'High' supports those will ultra high definition bandwidth. The 'Auto' setting will allow the browser to provide the best viewing experience automatically.
You can change the size of the subtitles in the video player. Click the speech bubble icon in the bottom right hand corner of the player. Here you can change the size, font, colour and background colour of the subtitles, or you can turn them off.
Firstly check you are logged in to your RBO Account. You can see this in the top right-hand corner of the screen. If you can see your name, you are logged in. Otherwise, please click the person symbol to log in.
Some of our productions are not available in some countries due to rights restrictions. If an opera or ballet is not available in your country, you will not be able to play the video and this will be clearly marked on your screen.
If you have recently made changes to your Account (e.g. changed subscription model, payment method etc) then you may need to log out of your account and log back in again to ensure your changes have been registered by our system.

If you are using an older device to stream our content at high quality, you might encounter an error on your screen. Not all older devices can handle ultra high definition streams. If you encounter a message such as "Video decoder or demuxer content error" please try altering the video quality using the Video Quality menu on the right hand side of the play screen.
