Background

The Royal Ballet and Opera’s Learning and Participation young talent programmes have a long-term commitment to providing a welcoming and tailored space for young dancers from all backgrounds to reach their highest potential. Chance to Dance works in partnership with independent dance schools across the country to be a catalyst for systemic change in equity of opportunity in ballet training. Children from Doncaster and Essex legacy companies will perform a mixed bill of works inspired by 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' alongside the Connect company.

Chance to Dance: Connect, led by Artistic Director Carolyn Bolton, builds upon the well-established national programme and brings together talented young people of Global Majority Heritage aged 11-17 who are aspiring for a career in Classical Ballet. This season, they will perform a piece, choreographed by Arielle Smith with original score by Christopher Benstead and Azizi Cole.

The young people will perform alongside Chance to Dance Alumni, professional dancers, Monique Jonas and Jacob Wye.
