Join cast and creatives from Richard Jones’ new production of I puritani as they discuss Bellini's final opera.

A white woman in an off-the-shoulder, ivory satin gown stands against a dark, smoky background. Her long, wavy hair falls loosely over her shoulders, and she gazes softly forward with a pensive and exhausted expression, illuminated by gentle, diffused light. The air is thick with what looks like battle smoke. The woman represents Elvira in Richard Jones’ production of I Puritani.

Richard Jones returns to The Royal Opera for a new staging of I puritani. Join cast and creatives as they discuss the opera, from its sublime score and spectacular arias to the passionate and shattering love story at its core.

Background

As Richard Jones’ new production of I puritani prepares for the Main Stage, cast and creatives explore the themes, characters and story of Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece. Conducted by Riccardo Frizza in his Royal Opera debut, the opera stars Lisette Oropesa as the devoted and deeply vulnerable heroine Elvira, and Francesco Demuro as her courageous lover. With virtuosic coloratura passages and ethereal, otherworldly arias, Bellini’s score imbues I puritani with profound emotional depth.
