Paul Taylor Dance Company makes its return to Britain after almost two decades with Piazzolla Caldera + Brandenburgs, alongside a third work still to be confirmed.
Snapshots of American modern dance, presented by Paul Taylor Dance Company.
Considered as one of the great pillars of 20th-century American modern dance, the late Paul Taylor is remembered for his original and often humorous choreography. A contemporary of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor created choreography that was experimental for its time, playing with perspective, form and process. He founded Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1954. Today, the company continues to embody and carry on his legacy, preserving his eclectic movement vocabulary.
In a dimly lit dive, working class men and women confront each other in sizzling duets and trios: men with women, men with men and women with women. Seething with eroticism, Piazzolla Caldera, Taylor’s work from 1997, is inspired by tango culture.
Accompanying Piazzolla Caldera is the elegant and virtuosic Brandenburgs. A radiant piece of choreography, Brandenburgs is set to Bach’s bright and brilliant Brandenburg Concertos.
Completing the programme will be a third work still to be confirmed.
