Background
Founded in 1956 and currently led by artistic director Marcello Angelini, Tulsa Ballet and its company of 26 dancers have gained a reputation in North America for excellence in both classical ballet and contemporary dance.
The mixed programme begins with Classical Symphony by San Francisco Ballet choreographer Yuri Possokhov. Set to music by Sergey Prokofiev, the exuberant neoclassical work draws on the choreographer’s childhood reverence for the art form and is dedicated to his ballet teacher. Nicolo Fonte’s Divenere follows. Inspired by both the powerful energy and serene calm found in nature, Divenere is underscored by Ludovico Einaudi’s cascading melodies. The programme closes with Hamilton choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler’s Remember Our Song. Nostalgic and touching, the work recounts the story of seven servicemen during wartime, and how they long to return to the arms of their beloved.
